Big Fish Showing In The Mix - KyuquotJuly 2 2013
The number of fish is still at an all time high
After our first week the catches still remain at an all time high. Just a few short miles offshore and near-shore the salmon fishing has been phenomenal.
Our evening fishing has been near shore Spring, Lookout and Thornton Islands with lots of Wild Coho action. The new limits this year have opened up some great fishing. We don't normally see Coho in this high abundance here this early. This has been a total bonus.
Most years the early fishing is all way offshore at the fifty fathom edge but this year we have been having great success right along the surf line and just offshore. There has been a tyee almost every group trip (3 days).
The fish in the picture above was landed in the late morning bite (10:30am) just off of Lookout Island.
We haven't had to fish bait since the fish have been thick. Fishing bait would slow down the productivity. Blue/Green Hootchies or Green/Silver #4 spoons behind a green fully rotating flasher has been the reliable ticket. Shorten up leaders for more Coho action and choose brighter colours.
For a real testimonial of this past weeks trip check out the online trip albums, here we post a variety of guest experiences all season long.
Clear Skies with fog in the morning with westerly winds picking up in the afternoons.
Limits are very generous:
2 Chinook per day/4 possession
4 Coho per day/ 2 of which may be wild (inside area 26)
2 Coho per day/hatchery only (offshore area 126)
1 Halibut/2 possession / Slot limit requirements
3 Ling cod/ 6 possession
We have some trips still available for Kyuquot. Including some last minute specials for this coming week. Drop us a note for dates!
This will be 17 years for us fishing in Kyuquot Sound. There is no other better place to be as we meet the great migration of all Southern bound Chinook stocks along the shelf.
We offer accommodation, all meals in our guided packages as well as the best guides around. We supply all the equipment and everything you need for a successful day. Sign up for our newsletter, or like us on Facebook and you will always have the latest information.
