Ucluelet Fishing Heats up Spring Days

Spring Chinook stack up along the coastline

Barkley Sound Chinook Salmon Fishing Report

The Ucluelet fishery well known for its early run of Chinook Salmon along the edge of the coastline and inshore Barkley Sound has been heating up the past 10 days.

With boat trips in the double digits for hookups trolling using down riggers just off the bottom has been key.  This also means picking up some nice halibut at the same time

The Salmon and Halibut are both feeding on needlefish now so using a dark green hootchy in the needle fish pattern with a fully rotating plastic flasher has been the best.  But also the green/chrome 3 and 1/2 inch Coyote spoon has also been the standard go to gear.  Fishing bait can be exceptionally productive however with the high encounter rates and deep water approach, sometimes its better to stick with hardware.
