Mid September River Update

Coho & Chinook Run

Fishing Report Sept 20 2014

Greetings from the Stamp River in the Alberni Valley

This week the run has been holding back in the terminal areas. Although the water has managed flows and is above the minimum for salmon migration, most of the movement is happening at night, with less during the day time.

Chinook and Coho continue to move through the counters mid river and counts continue to rise. This week the rains that did not accumulate to significant amounts but more is in the forecast for this week.

Of note is the very significant Chinook Jack run. These are two year old Chinook who mature early and are indicators of the subsequent years returns. This year it is looking off the charts!

The charts above were produced last week, but as of today over 20,000 Coho are already in the system. (Stamp and Somass combined)

Stamp Falls
  • Chinook Adults - 3461
  • Chinook Jacks- 2393
  • Coho Adults – 16,219
  • Coho Jacks- 1272
Sproat
  • Coho – 3776  adults
  • Coho Jacks -198
We expect any day (moment) for things to turn back on again and back into day time migration patterns. Still fish being encountered just not in the numbers like the few days before this update.
