Kyuquot Salmon and Halibut Fishing Report
Aug 2018

Kyuquot going strong this season! Stay tune for TUNA this coming week!

West Coast Vancouver Island 2018 Fishing Outlook / Regulations:

Overview
24 trips into the season and wow what a great season so far!  The Coho showed up in some nice numbers early this season along with some quality Chinook, Halibut and Ling Cod.

The Halibut abundance offshore has been unbelievable. Some instances being unable to get gear to the bottom to target ling cod! What a problem....some sore arms aboard a few boats this week!

We are also seeing large schools of young herring as well so small spoons with long leaders behind a flasher has also been the best ticket.

This year we are seeing a transition from sandlance/sardine populations to Herring.  This is known cycle over long periods of time. The result is that the Salmon are feeding in some different than usual places. We have it figured out though!
Squid Hootchie with FlasherLots of Squid around this year and the Chinook are hunkered down right on the bottom waiting for the feeding opportunity to come by.  Trolling with hootchies has been out performing anchovies.   From inside a chinooks stomach! FULL!

From inside a Chinook's stomach! full of Squid!

Kitty and Matt with perfect Hali   Halibut and Ling cod fishing has also been great with most guests getting their limits of both species.

There have been several released that are over the maximum size limit of 115cm. Couple of lunkers!

This year the regulation is 1 maximum of 115cm within the posession limit of 2. The other (or both) has to be under 83cm.
